Punjab, bound to Pakistan's border, is the heart of the Sikh community of India. Amritsar city, founded by Sikh Guru Ram Das in the 1570s, is the place of the most sacred gurudwara (Sikh place of worship) Harmandir Sahib. Known as Golden Temple in English, surrounded by a pool of nectar, it is a major pilgrimage site. Apart from this, there is a Durgiana temple in Amritsar, which is a Hindu temple famous for its inscribed silver doors.

Best Time to Visit
October to March are the best months to visit Punjab. While summers are hot and humid in Punjab, it's better to plan your trip during October to March when the weather is cold and pleasant making it comfortable for you to travel around and visit the major attractions of the State.

BY AIR -
Delhi is the major international airport if you are coming from abroad,
it takes only a few hours drive or by Train from Delhi to reach various
cities in Punjab. Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport is in
Amritsar, the other major airports in Punjab are at: Ludhiana, Patiala,
Pathankot, Mohali, Chandigarh.
BY RAIL -
All the major and smaller cities of Punjab are connected through
railways. Amritsar is the largest railway station having trains
connecting to all major cities. Punjab Railways have major railheads at
Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Jalandhar and Pathankot.
BY ROAD -
All the cities and towns of Punjab are connected with roads, National
Highways and State Highways. The Grand Trunk Road also called as NH1
connect Kolkata to Peshawar passing through Jalandhar and Amritsar.
Another major National Highway connects Punjab to Jammu passing through
Hoshiarpur and Pathankot. The state road conditions of Punjab are the
finest in India.
